 What is Stress?

Demand refers to the loss of something desired. Stress is at its most severest from individuals perceive the situation as an uncertain win or loss position. The level of stress is low if the person knows that winning or losing is a certainty. If the outcomes of the event are unimportant and bring no consequence people experience no stress. Stress is usually perceived as having negative and damaging effects only, but a certain amounts of stress is desirable and necessary to keep us alert and motivated to overcome obstacle of daily life. We consciously create mild stress in our lives to help overcome periods of frustration and dull routine. Sensory deprivation experiment shows that the absence of stimulation is unpleasant. Each of us can function best a moderate level of stress which we may call “healthy tension”, which involves low muscles tension, an alert presence of mind , peaceful bodily feeling , increased creative intelligence, physically vitality and a deep sense of wellbeing.

 

The damaging from stress is called Distress, which are what most people call “stress”. Excessive pressure, unreasonable demand on our time, bad news etc. generally result in negative consequence and dangerous side effects. Distress, if intense or prolonged can overtax the adjective ability and have physically or psychologically harmful effects.

The Cause of Stress

Stress is an unavoidable part of life. Events that lead to stress are called stressors. Stressors put physical or emotional demand on the persons. The main causes of stress are:-

 1.       Environmental Factor

               --Physical Environment:  war, crime, floods and disease etc.



                              --- Economic Factor: Limited financial gain, fatigue at work and loan etc.



            ---- Political Factor:  Argument with people, political uncertainties, change or instability in the political system, etc.
  

           ---Technological:  The way of living , over-industrialization, population increase, urbanization,          consumerism      and globalization.

   

           ---  Terrorism (Violence): civil conflict and violence, polarization groups, group prejudice, discrimination and  racial minorities etc.
